Junior Spanish National Honor

Sociedad Hispánica de Amistad (SHA) or the Spanish Junior National Honor Society, is an activities-based Spanish Society for Pre-K through 9th-grade students enrolled in a Spanish class. In order for a school to have a chapter of the Sociedad Hispánica de Amistad, all sponsors (teachers) must be members of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, (AATSP).

The purpose of the Society is to promote cross-cultural acceptance and understanding in students of Spanish and Portuguese and to encourage service to school and community.

All students are required to participate in projects in order to become members. Projects must use Spanish in some way and must be completed in each of the following three areas: AMBASSADORSHIP, SCHOOL SERVICE, and COMMUNITY SERVICE.

The SHA is classified as a national and international service and academic honor society in the study of Spanish and Portuguese and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, Inc. (AATSP)

The official name of our chapter is "Los Guerreros de Cristo", or Warriors for Christ.  Students must be enrolled in a Spanish class in the 7th, 8th or 9th grade and maintain a 3.5 overall GPA with a minimum of 85% in Spanish.  Students meet once a month to plan and execute the activities required in the areas listed above. If they continue on to an upper-level Spanish class, Spanish III, they may be eligible to apply for the High School Spanish National Honor Society.
