Visit www.actstudent.org or www.collegeboard.com to register. Sophomores and juniors should seriously consider taking the ACT in the spring; seniors need to take the ACT this fall.

As your children begin (or continue) to register and take the ACT ( www.actstudent.org ) and SAT (w ww.collegeboard.com ) college entrance exams, please help them prepare for a positive testing experience:
***Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep before every test.
***Provide a light, healthy breakfast on test day.
***Have your child dress comfortably and arrive at the testing site on time.
***Send your child off with confidence-building words of praise and support: You'll do great! Believe in yourself! I love you!
***Suggest that your child breathe deeply to relax before and during the test.
***Remind your child to read directions carefully.
***Tell your child to check his or her answers.

Congratulations to...
.. Karen Haynes, St. Frederick’s Teacher of the Year. Haynes received the award was announced at the Diocese of Shreveport Convocation in August. Haynes is a science and math teacher at St. Frederick.
... The Showstoppers, who won several awards and received much recognition at the Southeastern Louisiana University camp this summer.
Mercedes Mitchell, Keely Childress, Mallory Danna and Margaret Manning received an invitation to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in November. Mitchell, Childress, Danna, Manning and McKenna Giovingo were all chosen to be All-Stars and perform in the 2009 Pre-game Performance at he Capital One Bowl in Orlando. The Showstoppers also received superior for their routine at camp and first place in Drill Downs.
... The Cheerleading squads, for their performance at camp at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. All cheer groups received superior in all categories. Varsity received first in extreme routine, camp champs and overall superior squad. Four varsity cheerleaders were chosen as All-Stars: Annie Dollar, Alexis Guice, Lindsay Abshier and Jenny Farrar.
Junior Varsity received superior ratings in all categories. Three JV cheerleaders were chosen as All-Stars: Mary Elizabeth Nelson, Gabby Elkins and Rachel McDonald. Two junior high cheerleaders were named All-Stars: Grace Monger and Laura Holland.
... to Sarah Sampognaro, for her performance in the
2008 Cotton Country Open Horse Show Association show, where she was named Reining Class Champion. At the 2008 LSU Ag Center and FFA District Horse Show, she was named All Around Champion in the Senior Judged Event.
At the 2008 District and State of Louisiana LSU Ag Center 4-H and FFA Horse Show, she was named Reining Class Champion.
These achievements qualified Sampognaro to represent Louisiana at the 4-H Southern Regional Horse Show in Lexington, Va.., where she placed in the Top 10.
... to Wayne Haire, who one a gold medal recently at The International TaeKwonDo Regional Tournament in Jackson, Miss. Haire won the gold in Free Form Design, a Silver Medal in Sparing, and a Bronze Medal in Traditional Forms. Haire is a First Degree, Level 3 Black Belt and trains at Jason Wegener’s Tae Kwon Do Academy in Monroe. ... Randi Domingue and Natalie Domingue, 8th grader and junior, who attended the ADVANCE Program for Young Scholars at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La., where they participated in a residential program for gifted youth and focused on Algebra and Physics. They are the daughters of Christopher and Szu-Wei Domingue.

... Ajibike Dorothy Lapite, junior, attended Future Leaders Summit on Medicine through Washington School of World Studies, where she completed following courses:Leadership for Future Professionals - Trimester Social Studies Course

... Five St. Frederick seventh grade boys were part of an 11-man roster, Team Monroe Bayou Blaze, that traveled to Cooperstown, NY. to play in the 99-team Cooperstown Dreams Park Baseball Tournament Aug.2-8.
Representing St. Frederick were Patrick Whipple, Seth Christian, Peyton Braswell, Patrick Kelly and Will Daniels.
The team finished pool play with a 4-2 record. After winning their first round game in the single elimination format, they were knocked out by the eventual No. 3 seed. The team finished with a overall record of 5-3 and totaled 27 homeruns in the eight games played. The Blaze finished with a overall seeding of 30th out of 99 teams.
