Dear St. Frederick family:
What a summer it has been! I hope you and your families have had time to relax and enjoy the “free” time. (We know many of you have had jobs, attended camps, classes, workouts.)

After a busy summer at St. Frederick, we’ll be glad to see you again on Aug. 13. I know so many of you have grown and changed over the summer. It’s not unusual for a few to grow two to three inches!

Along with such growth comes an increased appetite, doesn’t it? At my household it’s difficult to cook enough for my boys. It seems they’re hungry all the time. Providing nutritious and cost-efficient meals at St. Frederick has been a similar challenge. The administration has decided it is in our students’ best interest to return to the Shreveport Diocese’s Child Nutrition Program.

SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM
Beginning Sept. 2, the Diocese will begin serving lunches, bringing our program in line with the Diocese of Shreveport’s Health and Wellness Policy.

The cost for a student lunch will be $2.50. Adult visitor lunches are $3.60. Students will be able to purchase bottled water and ice cream as well as extra servings of the main dish, vegetables/fruit, cookies, desserts, and other items for a nominal price.

The CNP manager will set up a lunch account for each student. Students and parents will make deposits to these accounts so that all purchases may be debited from them.

Applications for free and reduced lunches will be available to all families at the beginning of the school year. Families whose financial situation makes them eligible to apply are strongly encouraged to do so using this confidential form.

For students who choose not to purchase their lunch from the CNP Program, the guidelines of the program require that only “brown bag” style lunches prepared at home are allowed. These lunches can be packaged in any type of container: paper bags, plastic bags, insulated lunch boxes, etc. Restaurant or fast food lunches prepared by any outside food vendors will no longer be allowed to be brought to or eaten on campus for lunch.
Additionally, carbonated “soft drink” beverages are not allowed during lunch for any student.

Food and beverage vending machines offering healthy snacks and drinks according to state guidelines are available in the lobby of the gym until the end of break and after the end of 2nd lunch only.

Because the CNP program will not begin until Sept., 2, students will have to provide their own “brown bag” style lunches as described above for the first 13 days of school. Restaurant or fast food lunches will not allowed during those 13 days.

I know this represents a change for our St. Frederick family, but we are certain you will help us make this transition as painless as possible. As always, we are so grateful for your continued support.

God’s Blessings,

Jennifer Malone
